In the Basler restaurant scene, the closure of two established eateries was a sad moment for many food enthusiasts. The end of an era at the restaurant “Mägd” on St. Johanns-Vorstadt, after 15 years under the leadership of Adriano Giordano, left a void in the hearts of many. However, there is a silver lining as former employees from both establishments have found a new home at “L’Unique,” a rock ‘n’ roll bar and restaurant located on Gerbergässlein 20 in Basel.
The establishment at Gerbergässlein is famous for its extensive private collection of rock memorabilia, making it a unique spot in the city. The good news is that the team from the “Mägd” and the staff from the Literaturhaus have found new opportunities at L’Unique. According to a press release sent to the media, both the former chef from Mägd and the team from the Literaturhaus will be joining L’Unique after the summer break. This means that Basel can look forward to a fusion of highly esteemed culinary culture.
L’Unique is known for its rock memorabilia collection and its Italian cuisine, which was verified during a recent visit. Starting on August 15th, the former Mägd chef, Emanuele Bomba, will be joining the team at Gerbergässlein. The 26-year-old has three years of experience working under Adriano Giordano and was recommended by him to L’Unique owner Andy Ibach. Despite the new addition, the concept at L’Unique will remain Italian. Emanuele Bomba will also take over the kitchen leadership role at the restaurant.
In addition to the new chef, Caroline Haerdi from the former “Kafka am Strand” café will also be taking on a new role at L’Unique in mid-November, at the latest. She will be leading the restaurant during the day, allowing fans of the “House of Rock” to enjoy expanded opening hours. Instead of just Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, L’Unique will now be open from Monday to Friday starting at 9 am. In the fall, they also plan to open on Saturday afternoons and, depending on the weather, on Sunday afternoons.
With these new additions and extended opening hours, L’Unique is set to become a vibrant hub for rock ‘n’ roll enthusiasts and food lovers in Basel. The blending of culinary talents and the unique atmosphere of the venue promise an exciting dining experience for patrons. So, if you’re looking for a taste of Italian cuisine and a dose of rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia, L’Unique is the place to be.
