Designs and works by designer Theo Baumann can be seen at the Weil am Rhein Museum at Lindenplatz. In his speech, cultural office manager Peter Spörrer emphasized the close involvement of Baumann’s daughters Luis Lenz and Sabine Baumann in the exhibition preparation. He also mentioned the connection between Dietz and Baumann, highlighting the friendship between the designer and the family of former Weil am Rhein mayor Wolfgang Dietz.
Barbara Brutscher, who has a background in porcelain expertise from her work at the Porzellanikon in Bavarian Selb, collaborated closely with Baumann’s daughters in preparing the exhibition. She shared a bit of history during her opening speech, mentioning how she had come across a catalog of Theo Baumann’s work while working on signposts for the Porcelain Road.
Luis Lenz revealed that her father had approached Rosenthal directly with his handmade wooden boxes, showcasing his determination and initiative in getting his designs out into the world. The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by a musical performance by an ensemble from the music school under the direction of Valeria Gleim.
Former cultural office manager Tonio Paßlick, who initiated a special exhibition about 20 years ago that has been housed in a wing of the museum ever since, was among the guests at the opening. The significance of Theo Baumann’s work even led to the release of a commemorative stamp in 2016.
Doris Hüfner, a ceramic modeler trained in Selb, spoke about her six years of close collaboration with Baumann, highlighting his tireless work ethic and ability to inspire others. She mentioned handling many of the vases displayed in the foyer during their creation.
In addition to the exhibition at the Lindenmuseum, there is also a display of textile designs by Theo Baumann at the Museum Weiler Textilgeschichte. Both exhibitions offer a comprehensive program including guided tours and an excursion to Pforzheim, where Baumann adorned the Matthäuskirche with colorful glass blocks.
