Billerud is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of MediKraft SealBase, a surface-treated medical paper that provides a packaging solution for medical applications where a sterile barrier system is not required. The new paper is being unveiled at the Compamed medical technology fair.

“MediKraft SealBase is a strategic step in expanding our product portfolio in the field of medical papers, allowing us to serve a wider range of medical applications and customers looking for alternatives to traditional latex-based cold seal products,” says Robert Torstensson, Vice President, Business Area Paper at Billerud.

Produced at the Billerud Skärblacka mill in Sweden from pure virgin fibers, the 38 g/m² MediKraft SealBase is the first product in this series to hit the market. It is designed as a base paper for medical synthetic cold seal coatings, providing an innovative solution for medical applications where a sterile barrier system is not required – ideal for applications such as band-aids, as well as for use with latex-based cold seal coatings.

Billerud globally supplies its two main categories of medical papers – SteriKraft, a range of medical papers with microbial barriers, and MediKraft, a range of strong papers for applications that do not require microbial barrier properties, such as inner packaging for disposable gloves, cast packaging, and examination table covers.
