China’s quest for cleaner energy sources has led to a significant shortage of natural gas this winter as the country shifts away from coal consumption. In order to address this issue, China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has been working diligently to secure alternative sources of natural gas to meet the increasing demand.
One of the key projects that CNPC has invested in is the Yamal liquefied natural gas project in the Arctic region of Russia. This project not only helps to boost China’s natural gas reserves but also ensures a stable, long-term supply of natural gas for the country. When fully operational, China is expected to import more than 4 million metric tons of natural gas annually from the Yamal project.

As China continues to grapple with the natural gas shortage, CNPC is exploring various avenues to secure additional gas supplies. The company is in talks with Central Asian nations to negotiate additional stocks of natural gas to ensure that domestic demand is met adequately.
