Ghalibaf must be brought to justice for war crimes and crimes against humanity
The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the visit to Switzerland by General Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf of the Revolutionary Guards and his participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting. It emphasizes that this criminal Revolutionary Guard must be brought to justice for four decades of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Ghalibaf has always been one of the highest officials in the repression, warmongering, theft, and looting in the mullahs’ regime. Since the beginning of the religious dictatorship, he has played a very active role in the repression of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), the repression of protests and popular uprisings, the repression of the Kurdish population, the unpatriotic war, and the looting of resources and assets.
During the unpatriotic war, he commanded the 25th Karbala Division and sent thousands of children and schoolchildren into minefields. These crimes earned him the position of head of the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces headquarters. In 1994, he was appointed commander of the Khatam Al-Anbia base, the largest economic complex in the country under the mullahs’ regime. Three years later, he became commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force and played a very important role in the training of missile units in this corps and their expansion from 3 to 5 brigades.
In July 1999, Ghalibaf was active in suppressing the student uprising. In 2013, when he was running for president, he stated: “The 1999 incident on the university campus, the letter that was written (to the regime’s president) was written by me and Mr. Soleimani (Qassem Soleimani). When they headed towards the Supreme Leader’s office, I was the commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force. There is a photo of me on a 1000 motorcycle brandishing a stick. With Hossein Khaleghi, we went down to the street to take back the street. When it comes to going out on the street to wield the stick, we are among those who wield the stick. It is also an honor to have fought against Massoud Rajavi since 1979, on the street, at the university, and in high schools. We took care of them because we were part of the martyr Beheshti group. Since that day, when it came to going out on the street to wield the stick, we wielded the stick. I didn’t say I was the Air Force commander, so people wouldn’t ask me why I was on the street.”
In 2000, he was appointed commander of the repressive police and organized the moral security plan in October 2002. During the student protests in 2003, he told the regime’s Supreme Security Council, “As the commander of Naja, I will personally crush and sweep them away.”
From 2005 and for twelve years, Ghalibaf was the mayor of Tehran, a position in which he engaged in theft, looting, and handed over the city’s assets to Revolutionary Guard leaders and other regime officials at low prices. During this period, he implemented the repressive plan of segregating women in city halls. Since 2020, he has been promoting Khamenei’s repressive and warmongering policies as the speaker of the mullahs’ parliament.
